Writing Retreats

Feathered Ink will open the application period for Spring/Summer Retreats in early 2020.


All applicants will receive email status of their applications.

Fellowships to our retreats and residency programs are selected under a blind submissions process by our admissions/reading panel which is comprised of a revolving group of  writers and writing professionals who serve anonymously for one-two years.

Feathered Ink requires only a modest application fee. Lodging, breakfast, and lunch are provided for the duration of each residency at no cost to those awarded a fellowship.

A $30 (US Dollars) non-refundable fee is required for both online or mail-in applications.  Online applicants will be asked to pay via the online portal. Mail-in applicants may pay by check or money order payable to: Feathered Ink.

PLEASE NOTE: All transportation costs are the responsibility of the writer. Feathered Ink does not pay any stipend or living allowance.

Application Guidelines

Feathered Ink provides time and space in an inspirational setting to women writers and storytellers.  A Feathered Ink fellowship, or residency, consists of accommodations, studio space, and two prepared meals a day (breakfast and lunch) for the duration of the writer’s stay.  All travel is the responsibility of the writer. 


Feathered Ink accepts applications from women writers over the age of 18 who are working in any genre. The sole criteria for acceptance is based on a writing sample and a writer’s statement. Feathered Ink encourages writers and storytellers from all backgrounds and demographics to apply. Emerging, as well as established ,writers are welcome applicants as are students in degree programs.

Writers may only accept a fellowship and residency at Feathered Ink once every 24 months.

Writing Sample

All writing samples should be attached as either an MS Word MS Word Compatible File.

****PLEASE NOTE: Do not cut and paste your documents directly into the body of the email as this will remove all your formatting causing your work to be outside of our submission guidelines.  Files MUST be attached as MS Word or MS Word Compatible documents strictly following the guidelines below.****

Prose: Up to 3000 words

Poetry: Up to three (3) poems, no more than 8 pages total.

The Writer's Statement should be two (2) to three (3) pages that tells the admissions committee who you are as a writer. What drives your writing? What influences your work. What forms, structure, and techniques are important to you?  What are you currently working on and why? What future dreams/plans do you have for your words? How will a residency help you achieve your goals?


Both the writing sample and Writer’s Statement should include only your first and last name at the top right of each page with no other personally identifying information. Our submissions administrator will replace each name with a numerical identifier so that submissions are judged blindly by the admissions committee.

Oral Storytellers

We encourage oral storytellers to apply. Submissions should include a three-five minute oration as an audio attachment instead of a writing sample. A Writer’s Statement is still required, but may be submitted in either written or audio form. NO video please.
